TripDecode Advertising Policy

Advertising can support the platform. It should never control the editorial.

This policy explains how TripDecode handles advertising, sponsored placements and commercial collaborations while keeping destination research, ratings and editorial conclusions independent.

The basic principle

Commercial support is separate from editorial judgement.

TripDecode may carry advertising, sponsored placements and paid collaborations. These relationships can help support the cost of research, technology, publishing and maintaining the website.

Advertisers and commercial partners do not get to decide TripDecode's destination ratings, research findings, route logic or editorial conclusions.

A commercial relationship may influence where an advertisement appears. It should not influence what TripDecode concludes about a destination or travel experience.
How advertising is handled

Readers should be able to tell when something is commercial.

Display advertising
Ads should be distinguishable from editorial content

Display advertisements should appear in a way that does not mislead readers into believing the advertisement is part of TripDecode's independent editorial content.

Sponsored content
Paid collaborations should be labelled

When content is created or supported through a paid collaboration, tourism board partnership or brand sponsorship, that relationship should be disclosed clearly.

Ratings
Advertisers do not buy higher scores

Advertising spend, sponsorship or commercial value does not determine destination ratings or alter TripDecode's rating methodology.

Coverage
A partnership does not guarantee positive coverage

Working with a destination, tourism organisation or travel brand does not guarantee favourable conclusions, permanent coverage or a particular editorial outcome.

Editorial independence

The question is not who paid. The question is whether the reader can still trust the conclusion.

TripDecode separates commercial relationships from editorial decision making as far as reasonably possible.

No paid ratingsAdvertisers, tourism boards and sponsors cannot purchase a higher destination score.
No guaranteed conclusionsCommercial partners cannot require TripDecode to publish a favourable conclusion or remove legitimate criticism as a condition of payment.
Clear disclosureSponsored or paid collaborations should be identified so readers know when a commercial relationship exists.
Research comes firstDestination information, route guidance and practical planning advice should remain grounded in the research rather than the advertiser's preferred message.
What TripDecode may advertise

Commercial relevance matters, but so does fit.

Advertising may include travel services, accommodation, transport, tours, insurance, travel technology, destination campaigns and other products or services relevant to travellers.

TripDecode may decline or remove advertising that is misleading, unlawful, deceptive, unsafe, inappropriate for the audience or inconsistent with the standards of the platform.

Relevance

Advertising should make reasonable sense in the context of a travel planning platform.

Truthfulness

TripDecode may reject campaigns that appear materially misleading or make claims that cannot reasonably be supported.

Reader experience

Advertising should not intentionally obscure essential travel information or make the site difficult to use.

Advertising technology and consent

Optional advertising technologies should respect the visitor's privacy choices.

Advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies for measurement, attribution, frequency control or personalisation where those technologies are active.

Where consent is required, optional advertising cookies and similar technologies should be controlled through TripDecode's cookie consent system.

More detail about cookies and tracking is available in the Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy.

Sponsored trips and destination collaborations

Support for a trip does not buy the result.

TripDecode may work with tourism boards, destination organisations, hotels, transport providers, travel brands or other partners on hosted trips, sponsored campaigns or collaborative projects.

If travel, accommodation, access or other support is provided as part of a collaboration, the commercial relationship should be disclosed where relevant.

Receiving support does not guarantee inclusion in TripDecode, a positive rating, favourable wording or permanent placement.

Changes to this policy

The advertising model may evolve as TripDecode grows.

TripDecode may work with different advertising networks, sponsors or commercial partners over time. The core principle remains the same: commercial relationships should not determine independent editorial conclusions.

This policy may be updated when TripDecode's advertising model or legal obligations change.

Effective date: 3 October 2026.
